Project profile
San Francisco's ultra-hip GLBT press, Suspect Thoughts, had been producing relatively short runs of their highly acclaimed titles using only digital printing technology. The Publisher wanted to raise runs only slightly, but make the jump to a higher level of production quality. Additionally, the small staff does not yet include a dedicated production manager to advise regarding materials, inks, and prepress issues, so Little Jackie Paper acts as an on-call resource when questions arise.

Client Goals
Keep costs per book as close to previous titles' budgets as possible

Increase quality level of books to more effectively compete with much larger publishers' titles

Results
Little Jackie Paper identified a small printer whose equipment supported the short runs needed while keeping pricing within range. Production runs over the last year have included matte laminate covers, promotional postcards ganged with cover runs, special effects including Flourescent Inks, and on "Mortal Companion", a unique and luminous duotone image created using bronze metallic and black inks, enhanced with a subtly embossed crimson blood streak.
